First Generation

 1. Susan Helen Crum, daughter of Paul Crum and Ingrid Christine Kirkeberg, was born on 31 Jan 1913 in Minot, Ward Co, North Dakota and died on 27 Feb 2005 in Homer, Alaska at age 92. Another name for Susan was Honey.
 

Susan married Morris Theodore Wold, son of Sidsel Trondsdatter Kjos and Ole Peter Martinussen Grønvold. Morris was born 24 July 1913 in Minot, North Dakota. He died 17 August 1990 in McMinnville, Oregon.

Second Generation - Susan's parents

2.  Paul Crum, son of Taylor Crum and Helen Bixby, was born on 6 Aug 1880 in Andover, NY and died on 29 Oct 1957 in Montana at age 77.

Paul married  3. Ingrid Christine Kirkeberg, daughter of Gunder Andersen Kirkeberg and Gunhild Marie Eriksdatter Wold, was born on 12 May 1883 in Cummings, Traill Co., North Dakota and died on 13 Mar 1965 in San Francisco, California at age 81

  6. Gunder Andersen Kirkeberg, son of Anders Knudsen Kirkeberg and Ingrid Siri Gundersdatter Jukam, was born on 16 Jul 1865 in Gunder, Clay Co., Iowa, died on 7 Nov 1913 in Eugene, Lake Co., Oregon at age 48, and was buried in Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, Eugene, Ore.

Gunder married his first cousin, Gunhild Marie Eriksdatter Wold, therefore, merging the two "Kirkeberg" branches. They were married in Mayville, Traill, Dakota Territory on 22 May 1881.

From the Andreas' Atlas, 1884:
"G.A. Kirkeberg, farmer, P.O. Buxton, was born in Clayton, Iowa in 1855, a son of Anders K. Kirkeberg, who settled in Wisconsin in 1848, and in Iowa in 1852, where he was a pioneer. He has three sons and four daughters, of whom our subject is the third. Mr. Kirkeberg was married in the spring of 1881 to Maria Wold, of Iowa. Their children are Alfred and Emil [sic] [has to be Ingrid!]. In the spring of 1881, they moved to Dakota and located on the farm where they now live, one and one-half miles southeast of Cummings, on the main line of the St. Paul, MN and Manitoba Railroad. The land is good, with comfortable buildings, stock, etc. The wheat crop in 1883 was sixteen bushels, in 1882 twenty-one bushels, and in 1881 twenty-three bushels." The land patent was issued 15 Nov 1886.

In about 1900, Gunder began the General Store in Cummings, North Dakota.

  7. Gunhild Marie Eriksdatter Wold, daughter of Erik Jacobsen Wold and Anne Knudsdatter Kirkeberg, was born on 15 Jan 1858 in Valdres, Bagn, Søndre Aurdal, Norway, died on 25 Dec 1929 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon at age 71, and was buried in Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, Eugene, Ore.

In the 1865 Norwegian census from Søndre Aurdal, her name is listed as Gunnel Marie Eriksdatter. (Record 1175) She emigrated from Norway to the United States in 1880 boarding the S/S Hero (D. Connelly Line) in Oslo (then known as Kristiania, Norway) on 11 June 1880. (Listed as Gunhild Wold, Record number 22521 in Digitalarkivet: Emigranter over Oslo 1871-1930.) The Hero sailed from Kristiania to Hull, England. She then boarded the steam ship "City of Chester" in Liverpool, bound for New York, arriving on 26 June 1880. She settled in Postville, Iowa, with the family of Anders Knudsen Kirkeberg, her mother's brother. She and her first cousin, Gunder, fell in love and were married - apparently away from the rest of the family in 1881. We don't know much about her. Here is the one quote we found in a letter between two of her grand-daughters:

'You know it's funny. I remember zilch about Grandmother Kirkeberg. She only came once to the farm, and used to stay in the outhouse in the morning until our father hitched up Henry to the buggy and went in to Scobey to his office. (Or so Mother told me afterwards.) But do you remember the big box of cherries she (Grandmother) sent from their tree after she went back home! (Only once though)."'

Gunhild and Gunder are buried in Eugene, Oregon, at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery.

  12. Anders Knudsen Kirkeberg, son of Knud Larsen Kirkeberg and Maria Andersdatter Kulterstad, was born on 15 Jul 1822 in Søndre Aurdal, Norway and died on 14 Aug 1895 in Gunder, Clay Co., Iowa at age 43.

Anders married  13. Ingrid Siri Gundersdatter Jukam, daughter of Gunder Jullsen Jukam and Sigrid Olsdatter Bøen Nedere, was born on 6 Feb 1821 in Søndre Aurdal, Norway and died on 29 Jan 1909 in Gunder, Clay Co., Iowa at age 87.

i.  Maria Andersdatter Kirkeberg was born on 26 Mar 1848 in So. Aurdal, Norway, died on 20 Jun 1848 in Atlantic Ocean, and was buried in Buried As Sea.
ii. Marie Siri Kirkeberg was born on 2 Dec 1850 in Rock Prairie, Wisconsin and died on 18 Oct 1930 in Kanawha, Iowa at age 79.
"According to her daughter Ingrid Lillian, Marie traveled to So. Aurdal in the Valdres region of Norway "to find a husband." In the parish of Bagn she met and courted cousin Knute. He departed Norway on April 26, 1878, and married Marie two months later at her family's farm near Gunder, Iowa. In addition to marriage, Knute had another incentive to start a new life in America. His family's extensive holdings, including timber, sawmills and a large home on a high slope overlooking So. Aurdal, [were] inherited by his oldest brother, Ole Hanson Lien. iii. Knud Anders Kirkeberg was born on 23 Mar 1853 in Beloit, Wisconsin and died on 30 Jul 1938 in Kirkeberg Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa at age 85. Knud married Ellen Halvorsen on 17 May 1884. Ellen was born on 17 Feb 1857 in Numedal, Norway, died on 3 Apr 1931 in Gunder, Iowa. Knud (or Knudt, as he is frequently found in the census, seems to have been the brother that helped Gunder get started in North Dakota. He moved there first and Gunder followed with Gunhild several years later. Knudt's land transfer of the patented land he proved up occurred on 20 Oct 1882. The brothers' land tracts were adjoining one another.
iv. Gunder Andersen Kirkeberg.(6) Gunder married Gunhild Marie Eriksdatter Wold (7) on 22 May 1881 in Mayville, North Dakota.
v.  Ole Anders Kirkeberg was born on 16 Jul 1858 in Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa and died on 26 Sep 1859 in Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa at age 1.
vi.  Sara Andersdatter Kirkeberg was born on 10 Jul 1862 in Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa and died on 6 Dec 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at age 98. Sara married Carl Martin Raugland on 15 May 1891 in Gunder, Iowa. Carl was born on 6 Aug 1858 in Larvik, Norway, died on 24 Aug 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
"Described in Kirkeberg family records as "the only well-known woman altar-painting artist of her time," Sara did more than 200 biblical scenes for churches throughout the upper Midwest, including the altar art in St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Belmond, Iowa. She also did altar paintings for mission fields including China, as well as one for the church altar of her ancestors in Bagn, Aurdal, Norway. She also did secular work." vii.  Christina Kirkeberg was born on 5 Apr 1864 in Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa and died on 21 Aug 1921 in Decorah, Iowa at age 57. Christina married Frank Ludtsen on 1 Oct 1900 in Elkador, Iowa. Frank was born in 1865 in Sweden, died on 3 Mar 1943 in Independence, Iowa.
viii.  Olina (Lena) Kirkeberg was born on 11 Apr 1866 in Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa and died on 12 May 1955 in Belmond, Iowa at age 89.  Olina married Charles G. Lucas on 27 Dec 1921 in Hampton, Iowa. Charles was born in 1858 in County Lyne, Ireland, died on 21 Mar 1927 in Kanawha, Iowa.
ix.  Adolph Anders Kirkeberg was born on 26 Aug 1868 in Postville, Iowa and died on 15 Dec 1911 in Family Farm, Gunder, Iowa at age 43.  Adolph married Amelia Halvorsen on 6 Jun 1894 in Callender, Iowa. Amelia was born on 11 Mar 1875 in Callender, Iowa, died on 21 Feb 1955 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

14. Erik Jacobsen Wold (Ekerneie), son of Jacob Jacobsen Ekerneie and Gunnil Eriksdatter Taraldrud, was born 1796 or 1797 and died on 3 Jul 1886 in Nord Vold, Norway at age 89.

Erik married 15. Anne Knudsdatter Kirkeberg, daughter of Knud Larsen Kirkeberg and Maria Andersdatter Kulterstad, was born on 1 May 1817 in Bagn, Norway and died on 26 Feb 1892 in Bagn, Norway at age 74.

Erik was an emissary from Snertingdal, Norway. In the 1865 census for Søndre Aurdal, Erik is listed as a farm owner. The name of his farm was Vold nordre, which is where Gunhild took her identifying name (Wold) when she emigrated from Norway in 1880. Erik owned 1 horse, 13 cattle, 19 sheep, 9 goats, 2 pigs and grew wheat, rye, barley, peas and potatoes - mostly potatoes.

Erik Jacobsen Wold (Ekerneie) was first married to Siri Helgesdatter Holden 29 April 1826. (She died in 1838. She had first been married to Elling Vold, who died 14 Dec 1823.)

Fifth Generation (Great Great-Grandparents)

"Knud Kirkeberg was the spoiled child of a wealthy family that owned a large farm. Sociable and well-liked, he grew up wild but, through a family friend, became converted to Lutheranism. At a confirmation service, 31-year-old Knud met 15-year-old Marie Kulterstad, whom he described as "one of the most beautiful girls I had ever seen." They married about two years later and bought a farm in Gulbrandsdalen, where Ragnhild was born. With the death of Knud's oldest brother, Ole, Knud and Marie bought the family property in So. Knud married 25. Maria Andersdatter Kulterstad, daughter of Anders Olsen Kulterstad and Berte Jacobsdatter Kongsbakke on 23 Jul 1809 in No. Aurdal in a wedding festival that lasted a week. Maria was born on 1 Dec 1793 in No Aurdal, Norway and died on 18 Nov 1872 in No Aurdal, Norway at age 78.

ii.  Lars Knudsen Kirkeberg was born on 23 Aug 1812 in Valdres, Norway, died on 2 Jan 1898 in Valdres, Norway at age 85. Lars married Anna Olesdatter Olmhus in 1837. Anna was born on 7 Jan 1817 in Valdres, Norway, died on 29 Oct 1887 in Valdres, Norway at age 70.
iii. Berthe Knudsdatter Kirkeberg was born on 15 Jan 1815 in Valdres, Norway, died in 1889 in Valdres, Norway at age 74. Berthe married Niels Eriksen Ostengarden. Niels was born in 1802 in Valdres, Norway, died in 1885 in Valdres, Norway at age 83.

x.  Guri Knudsdatter Kirkeberg was born on 28 Aug 1833 in Valdres, Norway and died in 1901 in Valdres, Norway at age 68.

Sixth Generation

Lars married 49. Ragnild Olsdatter Kirkeberg, daughter of Ola Larsen Kirkeberg and Ingebord Knudsdatter Framgarden\Bole,  in 1768 in So. Aurdal. Ragnild was born in 1737 in So. Aurdal, Norway, died in 1818. General Notes: Ragnild (Rachael in English) was a member of the first Kirkeberg family mentioned in Valdres histories. She inherited the farm of a wealthy, unmarried uncle, Syver Kirkeberg.

50. Anders Olsen Kulterstad, son of Ole Andersen Kulterstad and Ingri Tomasdatter, was born on 8 Aug 1743 in N. Aurdal, Valdres, Norway.

Anders was a sculptor who crafted a baptismal fountain, with a kneeling cherub, in the Strand Church. Valdres residents wondered about the nativity of the Kulterstads, according to "The Lien Kirkeberg Families." The Kulterstads had "Greek features," with dark complexions and dark brown eyes.

Anders married 51. Berte Jacobsdatter Kongsbakke, daughter of Jacob Unknown and Unknown, was born on 14 Feb 1762 in Aurdal and was buried in N. Audal.

Aslak Olsen is 78 and wife Marit Olsdatter is 68. Listed as husband's parents-both in their first marriage. farm is Østegaard. There is an Ingri Aslaksdatter, age 57, married to Ole Olsen, age 67 (both in their first marriage) and they are living on the same farm and are on the same census page.
